Having know about the ADP, the ADTP (American Degree Transfer Program) is a more specialized program. This is because there has been quite some criticism about the generic nature of the ADP which students are not that comfortable with. The ADTP is actually modeled after the ADP in which it is more skewed towards a specific degree which the student is interested in later. Look at it as a foundation course which are preparatory modules for the later stages.

The main difference between the ADP and the ADTP is in its specialization. The ADTP provides you with the fundamentals of what you need to know if you are to enroll in a specific field later. That means if you are intending to get a bachelors in Information Technology, then you will enroll into an ADTP program which gives you all the fundamentals and basics of IT, like database, basic programming and such.

Another difference here is in the partner universities. In the past, most American higher learning institutions accept you if you have enough credits in all different fields. The ADTP functions in that, the course is designed with a certain partner university in the United States which sort of provide you with all the feeder knowledge you need prior to going there.

While the ADP is widely accepted not only in the United States but also in other countries like the United Kingdom and New Zealand, the ADTP is less flexible. Hence, before you enroll into any of the ADTP programs, ensure that the partner university is one that you are looking to go to later.

Whether it is the ADP or the ADTP, one thing you have to be sure prior to your enrolment is that you have to be certain of two main issues. The first one is that you are comfortable with a different education system altogether, where you will undergo various types of subjects before actually getting into the specialization you are after. This means that if you are into Accounting, chances are you might not be tapping in figures vigorously until your third year perhaps. Secondly, you have to be pretty much sure that you are going to continue your studies in the United States. This is because while the ADP programs are accepted in other countries, the easiest and most convenient way to transfer your credits are through to the American institutes, otherwise you might want to consider other options.
