Of course, just like any other professional courses, if you want to take the NCC instead of a common Computing degree, then you must first be very sure and determined that Information Technology is what you would want to pursue your career to. The most important thing that you must be first aware of is that NCC certification has various levels. The nature of this course has its advantage. Because there are 3 major levels altogether, you can opt to stop at any level and then go out to work or if you choose, continue into the degree later where you can gain entry through exemptions.
When you finish your SPM or its equivalent, you can enroll into the International Certificate in Computer Studies or in short ICCS. This is where you will need to learn the basics and fundamentals of computing concepts and the various areas of IT. This level is very crucial because it is where you learn about what IT is all about and concepts like databases, methodologies and such. The ICCS is where you learn most about the foundation concepts which will help you further as you progress to higher levels. This course is similar like a foundation in IT course or the Pre-University course but is highly specialized.
Once you finish the ICCS, then you can proceed to a higher level which is the International Diploma in Computer Studies or the IDCS which is an equivalent with the first year of a normal degree in IT. This level is very useful to help you gain more knowledge into further IT concepts and the more advanced topics. You will learn, among other things concepts like analysis and design of systems, implementations and development as well as the role of IT in the business environment and vice-versa. Once you complete this level, you are actually somewhat ready to work outside although you might have to start from the lower levels of employment. Otherwise you can opt to continue further with the NCC IADCS or go towards a degree where you could be accepted into the second year.
The IADCS or International Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies is where you will be trained further in the IT areas which are more specialized and equip you further with the tools of the trade. This level is one that similar to the second year of a common IT degree. That means upon completing this level, you could continue into a degree in IT in its final year and gain another certification. The Advance Diploma level will train you in more analytical and strategizing methods. This include the various concepts applied by the professionals and hence you will know how systems are developed in the real world. If you desire, upon completion of this course, you can also start working as well.
