The ICPU or CIMP (which stands for International Canadian Pre-University/ Canadian International Matriculation Programme) are additional options for you if you are looking to enroll in a pre-university course. Very much like the Australian Matriculation program, this is an internationally recognized pre-university program which you can take to gain entry into other universities like those in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
To qualify for this course, you will need to have the usual 5 credits in SPM or its equivalent (for example ‘O’ Levels). Your credits must include the mandatory Mathematics or Science as well as English Language. This is where you will find that it is important because of the fact that the course is conducted in English Language and you will also be required to write your examinations and complete your assignments in the mentioned language as well.
Of course, if you are looking to apply into any Canadian universities, this program would get you prepared and equip you with all the fundamentals needed. Otherwise, American universities too would accept this pre-university certificate without much hassle. But if you are looking to continue towards a UK or Australian degree, then there might be some complications, hence we suggest that unless you are pretty sure that you will continue into the Canadian institutions, you might want to give this a miss.
One of the most renowned ICPU program is currently being offered by Taylors College while Sunway University College is pretty famous for their CIMP programs. In the CIMP program, you are required to successfully complete six modules of which one of them must be an English module. However, if you pass the English placement test, then you will be exempted. Otherwise you can go one and take other modules ranging from Computer Studies, Business, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Science and English.
On the other hand, the ICPU program allows you to take modules in a wide range of disciplines namely Biotechnology, Business, Medicine, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Computer Science and Architecture. One of the good things about this course is that, you get to learn a wide range of modules before you actually go into your area of specialization. Very much like the conventional American Degree program, you will gain knowledge in all types of areas before you pick up the expertise.
