The Australian Matriculation is another option if you are looking to get into a pre-university course. Known is short as AUSMAT, you might also be familiar with the term SAM which stands for South Australian Matriculation. Previously, SAM was one of the very much sought after pre-uni courses as it allows you to gain entry to most southern Australian universities, but a more well-received pre-university course is now demanded and as such we have the AUSMAT. The duration of this course is 10 months.
One of the pre-requisites of the AUSMAT is that you have to first sit for the TEE(Tertiary Entrance Examination). This, to many is seen as something of a deterrence where you will be required to sit for a pre-examination right before you can even think about taking the course. One thing about the name of the course is that do not be misled by the fact that it is an Australian matriculation program, it does not mean that you must further your studies in Australia or in a Australian university. This program provides you with the pre-requisite to continue in your degree in universities from other countries as well.
To qualify for this course, you would be required to obtain at least 5 credits in your SPM(Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) or ‘O’ Levels. The usual Mathematics and English Language are the ones which you must have credits. English Language is important because it is the language conducted in this course, hence you will be required to master this language in both writing and in conversations.
Once you have the necessary pre-requisites, you will then be required to sit of the TEE paper which you must pass in order to qualify for the AUSMAT. The structure of this course is designed in such a way that you must take five or six modules, depending largely if you are exempted. In most cases, students are required to take all that is required. Apart from that, you must also take 2 additional modules, one each from the respective groups. Group 1 includes Chinese, Economics, English Language, German or Bahasa Malaysia while Group 2 consists of Accounting, Chemistry, Applicable Mathematics, Human Biology, Calculus, Information Systems and Physics.
